Style Guide: Not Your Average New Year's Eve Looks

New Year's Eve is just a few days away, and if you haven't already planned out your evening (I may or may not be guilty 😉) it's time to get on it!! Where are you going...how are you getting there...who are you going to spend it with...and last but definitely not least, what are you going to wear?! This is the start of a fresh, shiny new year, and so you want to look fantastic as it arrives!

This is the one night of the year when you can go over-the-top without discretion, so load up on the sparkles, go to town with your make-up, and wear those ridiculously high heels that have been stuck in the back of your closet all year!

If you're still struggling with outfit ideas, check out my suggestions below on how to dress for New Year's Eve so that your personal style shines through...

NYE Eve Look 1: Not Your Average Sequins Dress

I mentioned sparkles, but who wants to wear the typical sequins shift dress you'll see a million other women wearing? Instead, enhance your personal style with extra features such as dramatic bell sleeves, a longer hemline, or lower neckline ;) As long as it's sequins and as long as it sparkles, anything goes!

We suggest pairing this look with classic heels - either strappy sandals or a full pump - so as to not deflect from the glamorous dress. But again, this is your one night with a fashion hall pass, so if sparkly shoes are what your heart desires, go for it!!

NYE Look 2: Not Your Grandmother's Velvet - No Offense Grandma!

Velvet is IN! And no, not the old-fashioned, curtain-style velvet, but a more luxurious version, in deliciously rich, jeweled-tone shades. This midnight blue velvet dress by Preen is not only ideal for the evening's celebration, but it can easily be worn for other, less formal occasions as well. Simply add plentiful accessories and bling to welcome in the new year, and then play it down for a date night out. We love the versatility and style!

NYE Look 3: Sheer Perfection

Sheer material is sexy when done right. I know I said you are free to go as wild as you'd like BUT in this case we actually suggest you don't go over-the-top. We're not going for hooker- chic here, so perhaps just a hint of skin to add some intrigue and mystery.

Black is obviously the easiest color to pair with sheer, and remember to color coordinate your under garments so as to avoid any tacky clashes. The sheer neckline on Jenny's top is done exactly right - glam and sophistication to set the stage for the New Year.

NYE Look 4: Lace On Lace

And finally, lace on lace is another trend that is sexy, sophisticated, and ideal for that New Year chime at midnight. Black on black is a gorgeous and universally flattering combination, but midnight-blue or red will work easily as well. Again, we suggest keeping your shoes simple to really compliment the trend you're wearing and then add the bling in your bag and earrings.
