Style Guide: How To Add More Color To Your Wardrobe (And Why You Should!)

With the rise of minimalism and a clean aesthetic, neutrals have long taken over the fashion world. Just go through a few fashion blogger photos on Instagram, and you’ll quickly see that there’s a clear lack of bright and bold colors gracing your feed.

While it's true that black and white carry a certain level of elegance, wearing bright and bold colors can be equally as refined. It's all in how you incorporate these hues into your everyday look that makes all the difference, so we’re making a case for why you should start adding more color to your wardrobes—and how exactly to pull this off without looking a mess!

Wear A Solid Over Your Favorite Neutral

Bright and bold colors are a great way to bring more life to your look, especially if you’re the type who tends to wear neutrals day in and day out.

Don’t worry, though! You don’t have to instantly switch from black-and-whites to bright neons in a day. What you can do is slowly, but surely, incorporate colors into your favorite neutral ensemble.

It may be in the form of wearing a colored top with white trousers for a fresh spring feel, or perhaps going for that red pair of shoes with an all-black ensemble for that sexy and sleek finish (see our last look below). You can also take a style tip from our girl Margo here, who shows us how to pull off a gorgeous dusty rose-colored coat over a gray outfit. A fine pairing without making you feel as though you’re going overboard with color—just yet.

Start With Blue

Blue is everyone’s friend, so if you’re not too keen on jumping into yellows and pinks just yet, consider starting with this hue.

Deep blue shades, such as midnight and navy, are perfect alternatives to wearing black. It creates a bit more vibrancy without taking away from the unparalleled elegance that an all-black look gives.

Once you’re feeling more comfortable, you can then transition into lighter shades of blue with the likes of royal blue, cobalt, ultramarine, or even cerulean blue. Just have fun with it and experiment until you feel your absolute best!

Pop Your Athleisure With Color

So maybe you really aren't ready to push the envelope by incorporating bright hues into your everyday attire. In this case, you can start more simply by injecting brighter hues into your athleisure ensemble since these are made to look more playful and lively to begin with!

Whether you’re going for crazy prints or just a solid neon, adding bold colors into your athleisure outfit transforms your look from simply looking sporty into feeling like Sporty Spice. And as an added bonus, wearing bright colors tends to give an extra boost of energy and uplift your mood, which is always needed regardless if you’re running errands or running a marathon.

Use Accessories To Bring In Color

Another easy-peasy way to add colors to your daily look is by wearing them as accessories. This is perfect if you can’t seem to let go of your neutral ways and would rather opt for that wild pop of bold color in the form of a handbag, jewelry, hairpiece, or what have you.

Colorful accessories get versatility points as well for easily transitioning your look from day to night, and they can even go with you on more formal occasions without looking out of place.
